Chicken Pakora ( Chicken & Onion Fritters)

Chicken Pakora – A yummy and spicy Indian tea time snack or appetiser made using thinly sliced onions, chicken, green chillies, gram flour and basic spices. This can be made in under 20 minutes if you skip the marination and have all the ingredients ready. Spicy and crispy, these chicken pakoras be had as such without any chutneys or dips.

Let’s fry some chicken pakoras for ourselves, shall we?

INGREDIENTS

Serves – 4-5

  • Chicken Breast – 300 gms
  • Ginger Garlic paste – 1 tbsp
  • Red Chilli powder – 1 tsp
  • Pepper powder – 1tsp
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  • Lime Juice – 1 tbsp
  • Onion – 1 medium, thinly sliced
  • Green chillies – 2 , thinly sliced
  • Coriander – ½ cup packed, finely chopped
  • Gram Flour – ½ cup
  • Corn Flour/Rice flour – 1.5 tbsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Oil – for deep frying

METHOD

1. Slice the washed chicken breast into thin, small strips.

2. Marinate the strips with 1 tsp salt, ginger garlic paste, red chilli powder, pepper powder, lime juice and turmeric powder. Refrigerate for about 30 minutes to 1 hour.

3. In a separate bowl, take the thinly sliced onion, green chillies and finely chopped coriander.

4. Add the gram flour, corn flour/rice flour and the marinated chicken. Add about ½ tsp salt.

5. Mix well without any water or oil. Heat oil for deep frying.

6. Take some of the chicken onion mixture and drop it in the oil randomly. Do not make clusters. Just drop around the surface of the oil.

7. Fry till they are cooked and golden brown.

8. Serve hot with a cup of tea/coffee or as an appetiser.

NOTES

  1. Do a salt check test before frying off the first batch. Fry about 1 spoonful of mixture and check for salt. Add more to the mixture if necessary.
  2. Skip the marination if in a hurry.
  3. Slice the chicken into thin small strips for uniformity.
