Moong Dal Vada ( Yellow Lentil Fritters)

Moong Dal Vada – Quick and easy deep fried fritters made with yellow lentils, ginger, green chillies and coriander. Serve these fritters with a cup of hot ginger tea or use them to make a quick chaat.

Let’s see the recipe for these fritters now shall we?

INGREDIENTS

Serves – 4-5

  • Moong Dal ( Yellow Lentils) – 1 cup
  • Urad dal ( Black gram) – 2 tbsp ( optional)
  • Green chillies – 3-4
  • Ginger – 2 tbsp
  • Coriander – ¼ cup
  • Hing/Asafoetida – 1 small pinch
  • Salt – To taste
  • Oil – For deep frying

METHOD

1. In a container take 2 tbsp urad dal.

2. Add about 1 cup moong dal to the same container. Wash both the dals and soak them in sufficient water for about 1 to 1.5 hrs.

3. Drain and grind the soaked dals along with green chillies, ginger and coriander to a smooth batter without any water.

4. Once ground, mix with hands/whisk the batter to fluff it up a bit. Add salt and asafoetida.

5. Mix well and drop small amounts of batter into hot oil. Fry them till they are golden brown.

6. Serve hot with some green chutney/ketchup and a cup of tea.

NOTES

  1. Adding urad dal is completely optional.
  2. Try to avoid adding water while grinding the batter. If needed just add 1 tbsp water before grinding
  3. The oil should not be too hot to avoid burning of the fritters.
